The goal of this work is to explore painting nature in our contemporary time, considering ideas of the Anthropocene- the geological epoch of Earth in which nothing is “untouched” by humankind- meaning nature is unnatural.

Nature painting is often considered to be passive or cliche. I believe depictions of nature in contemporary art should reflect the new nature of the Anthropocene-- or hypernature-- where we now question what is truly “natural”. I'm influenced by living in suburbia where nature is controlled and manipulated and there is a clear divide between the “born” and the “made”. A potted plant is our new nature.
